Most SaaS products take 6–18 months to go from idea to first paying customer. StayReady took under two weeks. This is the honest story of how that happened, what we used, and what surprised us along the way.
The problem we were solving
I self-managed Airbnb properties. The operational chaos was real: missed cleanings, supply shortages, maintenance requests that fell through the cracks, and zero visibility into whether each property was actually profitable after expenses.
The tools on the market were either built for large property management companies (overkill, expensive, steep learning curve) or too lightweight to actually solve the coordination problem. There was a clear gap for independent hosts with 1–10 properties who want something in between.
So I decided to build it.
Why AI-assisted development changed the math
The traditional path to a product like this — hiring a dev team, writing specs, iterating through a design agency — would have cost $50,000–$150,000 and taken the better part of a year. I took a different route: building on Willo, an AI-powered platform that lets you describe what you want and have it built for you.
That’s not a metaphor. The actual product — login, dashboard, cleaner scheduling, turnover checklists, supply tracking, maintenance alerts, guest messaging templates, and a profitability dashboard — was built through conversation and iteration, not through months of development sprints.
A few things this enabled:
- Speed without cutting corners. Every app page was built to spec with real functionality — not a prototype or a mockup.
- Full-stack from day one. Auth, database, payments (Stripe), email drips, analytics — all wired in as part of the same build process.
- Low cost, high quality. The barrier to entry for a well-designed, functional SaaS product dropped significantly.

The things that surprised us
How fast copy becomes product. In traditional development, writing the marketing copy and building the product are separate workstreams that happen months apart. Here they happened simultaneously — the brand voice and product features emerged together, which made both sharper.
How much the analytics work mattered early. We instrumented funnel events — “Opened dashboard,” “Viewed profitability,” “Viewed properties” — before we had a single paying customer. That discipline means when traffic arrives, we’re not guessing; we know exactly where people drop off.
The nudge vs. the hard sell. Some of the highest-impact work was the small behavioral stuff: a sticky CTA bar on mobile, a return-visit email capture sheet that triggers after 30 seconds of dwell time on a second visit. These weren’t features — they were observations about how real visitors behave, turned into responses.
What’s next
StayReady is live at stayready.company with a free 14-day trial. The focus right now is on getting the first cohort of hosts through onboarding, watching where they get stuck, and tightening the product around what they actually do every day.
If you’re an independent host managing 2–10 properties and you’re still using a spreadsheet (or nothing) to coordinate cleanings and track expenses — that’s exactly who this was built for.
Interested in building your own SaaS or operations tool with AI? Willo is the platform I used. It’s genuinely different from anything else I tried.
